DescriptionIn the Spring of 2008, Community Wide Dialogue (CWD) began developing a sustained dialogue for Syracuse’s Northside, where ethnic tensions are escalating, especially among African, African American, Middle Eastern, and South East Asian middle school aged children and families. CWD was setup by Interfaith Works in partnership with the Center for New Americans, the Northside Collaboratory, Franklin School, and White Branch Library. CWD will begin in late November of 2008 and continue through the Summer of 2009. CWD uses the Sustained Dialogue for Communities in Conflictual Relations program, developed by the Kettering Foundation. It will serve as the primary guide, as it has been successful in addressing ethnic tension in the U.S. and around the world. This is the same model that was used eleven years ago when tensions between Italian Americans and South East Asians were creating community strife on Syracuse’s Northside, and which built lasting relationships among these two communities.
