St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center celebrated diversity in February by hosting a week of activities that included an ice carving exhibition by international ice competitor Stan Kolonko, Multicultural Awareness Day, Diversity Expo featuring local food and music, multicultural meals served in the cafeteria, and a prayer service.

It is important for the hospital to embrace diversity among its employees, medical staff, patients and visitors, said Frank Panzetta, St. Joseph’s director of human resources.

“There is an increase in diversity—in our workforce, in our patient population and in our community,” Panzetta said.  “So, how do we respond to it and how do we embrace it?  The bottom line is that we want people to feel welcome.  We want them to feel comfortable.  The Diversity Expo simply gave us the opportunity to celebrate diversity in a fun and educational way.”
