Plans Saturday Night? The Northside Does! Come Join the Fun

This Saturday night there is no shortage of music and art to take in or organizations to support.

From 7-10 PM, Craft Chemistry (on North Salina Street, next to Biscotti's) will feature a closing party of the current show "Detour," showcasing more work from the two featured artists Dan Mabie and James Boettger. Get in there and get your hands on some original pieces of art, you won't be sorry you did. Owner Briana Kohlbrenner suggests grabbing a bite to eat at one of any number of excellent restaurants on the Northside before the party begins.

For another combination of art and fun, this time mixed with a little music and a silent auction, why not check out the ArtRage Gallery? Located at 505 Hawley Ave, the non-profit gallery is hosting their second annual ArtRageous Extravangza! and invite you to join in the celebration, where you can enjoy music under the stars with guest Emcee WAER’s Eric Cohen, Marimba with Kambuyu, Electric Blue Grass with Atlantic Flyway and Jazz with Jesse Collins. Eat, drink and bid on a fabulous selection of Silent Auction items such as: Outdoor garden items, gift cards to restaurants, theater, opera, massages and more. There are even family friendly auction items such as children's toys, books and games! This is their biggest fundraiser of the year! Don't miss the opportunity to support such a forward thinking. Tickets available online (at their website www.artragegallery.org through PayPal), at the gallery and at Roji Tea Lounge. Tickets are $12.00 suggested donation (or two for $20.00).

If you feel like a supporting a worthy cause but would prefer an evening where the soft sounds of guitars, irish flutes and scandanavian fiddles to dance through the air, head on over to the First English Lutheran Church, on the corner of Townsend and James Streets, where Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen will give a concert to benefit the work and compassion of the Friends of Dorothy. Friends of Dorothy is a local initiative providing support to people with AIDS. Since October of 1992 they have offered home-based care to people with AIDS in a variety of ways, including recuperative or hospice care, supportive housing and emergency assistance. For more information on the organization, click here. Admission to the concert is on sliding scale $0-20 (purchased at the door or in advance at Haironoia 479-8255)

So, really there's no excuse to stay home this Saturday night, unless you're being held hostage by aliens and if that's the case, explain what's going on and have them join you on the Northside for some fun, music and art!
